Amanitas Amanita

Included genera: Amanita, Saproamanita

Amanitas are usually white-spored gilled mushrooms. In many species, the developing fruitbody is enclosed by partial and universal veils.

  • White spore print
  • Gills usually free
  • Ring often present
  • Volva or bulbous stem base often present

Veil remnants on the cap may wash away in rain, so always uncover the entire stem base. A volva and a bulbous base are often more reliable than cap colour.

This genus includes deadly poisonous species. Never eat an unidentified Amanita.
